Wasting away in Mosquito-ville

Adrian and Gabriel obviously
coordinated
their outfits before
the outset of the trip.
Canada Day insists it be celebrated in the great outdoors.

Like dedicated Canadians, we were committed to braving the wilderness of Algonquin Park for the July 1st Canada Day weekend.

Totally off the grid.  By the looks of it, off the fashion cat walk too.

Algonquin Park was established in 1893, as a wildlife sanctuary protecting the headwaters of the five major rivers which flow from the Park.

The area was formerly used to log the great White Pine.  It was made famous by Tom Thomson and The Group of Seven, and has inspired a number of books.

We're so lucky to have this park a mere 2 hour drive away.

Gorgeous view
from our campsite

That bull frog was some noisy!

Wondering why they weren't getting anywhere....
Turn around Jill!!
Nice photobomb Adrian....

Many would be afraid of the wild animals,  like bears, when setting out to the deep woods, not us.  We had repellent against the world's deadliest animal...

We came armed with mosquito repellent!  I caught Gabriel double-barrelling the Off!  Those Irish have fully indoctrinated into Canadian culture now.

This is how you do it!!

Survival kit  for the weekend
-used as hairspray

A little fluttering beauty

High Falls,
nature's waterslide
in Algonquin Park

The pool below the falls is so squared off,
it actually looks like a man-made spa!
Right here in our own backyard.

No amusement park lines ups here.
The price of admission -
a canoe paddle, portage
and mosquitoes at the campsite.

Yeah, I'm feeling
totally Chill-Jill now

On 3!!

Omygoodness that was fun -
over and over again.
I felt like I was 9.

Adrian required emergency medical intervention
after trying to light a fire.
Good thing we brought a doctor with us.
He didn't die.

Must nourish the body after such a day.
Like my work station?

Ah, and nourish the soul.
Nice touch with the stemware!

A few games of cards...
Note the nod to Canada Day in the background?

I know we brought a doctor along,
but did we need an IV bag in the first aid kit?

No, its not a tree IV either.
It is our fancy new water purification system.
Great camping kit.
Gotta have a campfire or its not a camping trip.
Thankfully, the bleeding stopped.

Until next camping trip!
